Counseling and Outreach Centers

The purpose of the two Career Counseling and Outreach Centers is to assist academic and economically disadvantaged youths and adults ages 16 and over who meet the Educational Opportunity Center income guidelines to prepare for further education and improve their skills for participation in productive work.

The Career Counseling and Outreach Centers are located in Schenectady and North Bronx, New York. They provide educational, career, counseling and referral services to disadvantaged persons who are in need of quality supportive services for career and educational planning.

Specifically, the role and responsibilities of these centers include the following:
  • Disseminating of information on Center services to potential clients, community based organizations, and Business and Industry.
  • Providing counseling and referral services to high school dropouts, economically disadvantaged adults; unemployed and underemployed; college bound students; youth at risk; ex-offenders etc.
  • Providing career, educational and vocational counseling, financial aid counseling, resume writing and preparation for job interviews.
  • Conducting diagnostic testing and support for student applications for GED and college.
  • Referring students and other clients to Educational Opportunity Centers, Institutions of Higher Education, Vocational Programs, and employment sites.
  • Providing pre and post employment services for students and or clients.
  • Pre-employment services may include resume writing, job interviewing and proper dress techniques and necessary soft skills for obtaining employment.
  • Collaborating with community agencies to assist job seekers to acquire opportunities for employment.
  • Developing partnerships with community agencies, college admission advisors, and business and industry.
