Westchester EOC – 1991
Business Computer Program

Turning Life’s Obstacles into Lifetime Career Opportunities

Finding a good job to support a family is challenging enough for anyone. But as a high school dropout, Nat Quintero lacked both a diploma and job skills. A friend told him about the opportunities at the Westchester EOC and he enrolled in the Business Computer Program. Before that course, he had never even used a computer.

He graduated the EOC in 1991 with a certificate in Contemporary Office Skills and a SUNY Chancellor’s award for academic excellence. Mr. Quintero remembers, “Besides providing students with a first-rate education and the latest computer skills, EOC taught me the most important lesson: Believe in myself. After graduating EOC, I felt I could do anything I wanted to do.”

Following the advice of the EOC staff, Mr. Quintero enrolled in Westchester Community College – where he excelled in Computer Information Systems and earned his GED. Graduating with an A.A.S degree in 1994, Mr. Quintero began a career in management information systems – gaining valuable experience in network management and staff training.

Today, working as a PC Technician for the City of Yonkers, Mr. Quintero provides hardware and software support for over 700 users. Also, in October 2002, Mr. Quintero was appointed by the Yonkers Mayor to serve a five-year term on the City’s Board of Education. He strives to maintain high-quality education for the City’s 26,000 students – 44% of which are of Hispanic origin.
